Workum

webapp_image

Workum, or Warkum in Frisian, is one of the Frisian Eleven Cities and has had city rights since 1399. Lying on the former Zuiderzee and bordering the Frisian lakes, Workum was an important trading town for the region. A city walk through the old centre is an attraction in itself. Along the way, you will see the many stepped gables, gabled roofs and the Grote or Sint-Getrudiskerk church. Not for nothing has it been a protected townscape since 1988. In the Jopie Huisman museum, you can enjoy the beautiful paintings of the old iron and rag merchant Jopie Huisman. Or visit the beach because this Eleven Cities town, located on the IJsselmeer, has an ideal beach for children and (kite)surfers as the water is shallow. As a result, Workum is also a busy place in summer!
